The musical tells the story of Ella Fitzgerald, is written and directed by Lee Summers, conceived by Maurice Hines, and stars recording artist Freda Payne (Band Of Gold) as Ella.
Nicole co-stars as Georgeanna Henry, Ella's cousin and caretaker throughout her travels performing on the road.
Completing the cast is Debra Walton (Chicago the Musical)who doubles as young Ella and Ella's sister Frances, and Eric Coles (Rock of Ages) as Ella's manager, Norman Granz. Musical Director, Dionne Hendricks (Hadestown) , leads a stellar band of 6 musicians, some with years of experience playing with Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Ella herself!
Nicole Powell is excellent and frequently very funny in the role of Fitzgerald's steely, long-suffering cousin Georgiana, bringing something of an Allison Janney quality to the character.

Nicole makes official statement to audiences following the passing of Tina Turner
Rockin' and rollin' across 28 cities in the first year of the North American Tour of TINA.
Nicole played multiple parts in the ensemble and understudied the roles of Zelma Bullock and Gran Georgiana (Tina's mother and Grandmother).
Tina Turner passed away about 8 months after the tour began and just before the show opened in Salt Lake City, Utah. The production's management team asked Nicole, who was scheduled to play the role of Zelma, to make a curtain speech, in Tina's memory, before the start of the show. Live Theater is Back! Nicole returns to the stage as Justice Charlier in ROCK OF AGES at Theater Under The Stars in Houston TX. The stellar cast included Broadway performers Justin Collette (School Of Rock), Justin Mathew Sargent (Rock Of Ages, Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark), Drew Redington (Mean Girls, The Prom), and Diana Huey (The Little Mermaid, Miss Saigon).

Nicole reprises one of her favorite roles, Muzzy Van Hossmere. Nicole plays a principle role in a staged reading of the new musical An Officer And A Gentleman, based on the 1982 hit film starring Richard Gere and Louis Gossett Jr. Nicole was cast in the role of Officer Candidate Seeger. The NYC presentation was directed by Simon Phillips, (dir. of Priscilla of the Desert), and performed before an invited audience.

Nicole joins Nathan Lane, David Hyde Pierce, and other Broadway performers in Marc Shaimans Prop 8: the mini-musical. The performance served as the opening number for Defying Inequality: the Broadway Concert celebrity benefit for equal rights. Prop 8 - the musical was originally a star-studded video that became an internet sensation.
In this live version, Nicole is added to the cast making a special appearance impersonating First Lady Michelle Obama.
The performance, directed by Adam Shankman (dir. Hairspray the movie), was met with thunderous laughter and applause.

"Ragtime" Is Back On Broadway and Nicole is Back at The Neil Simon Theatre
After a successful run at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Ragtime returns to Broadway and sets up house at the Neil Simon Theatre.
Nicole is cast in the ensemble and is thrilled to return to the theatre where she performed in Hairspray until it closed earlier this year.

On January 4th 2009 "Hairspray" will play its final performance on Broadway.
After 61/2 years and 2,641 performances at the Neil Simon Theatre, Hairspray says goodbye to Broadway. In the final weeks, Harvey Fierstein and Marissa Jaret Winokur returned to reprise their Tony Award winning performances and close the show.
It was a bittersweet moment for Nicole who joined the company just short of their first anniversary in 2003. She worked with just about every one that has performed in the show. Some well known names include Harvey Fierstein, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Mathew Morrison, Kathy Brier, George Wendt, Michael McKeon, Tevin Campbell, Hilary Duff, Diana Digarmo, Darlene Love, Ashley Parker Angel and Lance Bass among others.
After taking a final bow with the rest of her cast mates, they were joined on stage by the producers, the creative team and dozens of Hairspray alumni.
